I had been dyingggg to make one of those Acai Bowls.
You know the one’s I’m talking about. There pictures are all over Pinterest and Instagram. These bright, colourful bowls glowing of healthy goodness. Every time I see a picture of acai bowl I just feel healthier. I can only imagine how amazing those people must feel after they eat one of them. If you post a photo of an acai bowl then you’ve pretty much solidified yourself as a bonafide health nut!
I consider myself a health nut so obviously others to think I am too. This means I really need to step my Acai game. I want to eat acai bowls on the reg and I want to photograph them in all their colourful, cheerful glory!
There was only one problem. The base of the of the bowl is the acai (Duh!) and for every post I’ve seen people have bought these Sambazon Pure Acai Frozen Smoothie Packs as that’s how they get that ice-creamy consistency. Unfortunately for me these packs were impossible to find, like nowhere in the city had them (disclaimer: there is no Whole Food in my city). However, not all was lost. While researching recipes on Pinterest (i.e. drooling while pinning pictures of food I will likely never make) I came across The Baeza Blog who also had the same issue and came up with a great idea! She bought a massive bottle of Pure Acai Juice, poured the juice into ice trays, and used 3-4 frozen cubes instead of the store bought packages. It actually is cost effective too. 4 little frozen packaged costs $6.99 while a large bottle of Acai juice also cost $6.99 but filled 3 ice trays (about 10 bowls/smoothies!).
I tried this method and it turned out great! I could not be more proud of the first Acai Bowl!
|4 Acai Frozen Cubes||-shaved coconut|
|Half Frozen Banana||– ½ banana|
|½ cup frozen raspberries||– Gogi berries|
|Splash of acai juice||– hemp seed hearts|
Add all the base ingredients into the blender and blend until think ice-cream consistency. I put mine on ice-crush mode and pulsed it 4-5 times. Then just add the toppings of your choice!
